Abstract
The use of language today has changed along within times. The rapid development of technology has been emerged to a new language form, namely slang. The emergence of this language form is the impact of social media as one of the developments of technology. Social media also influences the development of slang among teenagers, because this language form is easier to use in a conversation. It is feared that the using of slang on social media will become an issue for imitation language, because social media users come from various circles. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of slang in social media on language imitation behavior. The research used explanatory quantitative method. The results of the correlation test between the effect of slang variable and the language imitation behavior variable were 0.353. The results of the hypothesis test show that there is an effect of exposure of slang language on social media on language imitation behavior, with the coefficient of determination showing the number 12.461%, which means that the influence of slang on social media exposure contributes 12.461% to language imitation behavior.
