Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic that occurred in Indonesia did not break the number of active smokers, especially in the adolescent age group. During the pandemic, there was an increase in total cigarette spending in Indonesia by 15.2%. In DKI Jakarta, 10.7% of adolescents are recorded as active smokers. This study aims to analyze the determinants of adolescent smoking behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic in DKI Jakarta. The study used a cross-sectional design. The sample in this study was 508 which was taken using an accidental sampling technique. The data analysis that being used is Chi-Square and multiple logistic regression. The results of bivariate analysis showed that age, gender, knowledge, attitudes, smoking parents, smoking peers, interest in cigarette advertisements and pocket money had a statistical relations with adolescent smoking behavior while the multivariate results showed that the most influential determinant of adolescent smoking behavior in DKI Jakarta was attitude with a POR value = 23.41 (95% CI = 10.00-54.81) after being controlled by age and stress level. This study conclude that adolescents who have bad attitude got higher risk for smoking behavior. The process of growth and development that occurs in adolescents is in line with the process of forming the attitudes, where it will affect their behavior. Thus, it is hoped that adolescents can avoid smoking behavior by increasing knowledge regarding the dangers risk of smoking, increasing positive activities, healthy friendship environtment and having a healthy lifestyle.
