Abstract

Background. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a disorder that characterized by recurrent collapse of the upper airway, either partially or completely, that occurs during sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can negatively affect productivity and quality of life because it can affect and increase daytime sleepiness. Quality of life in children is a feeling of comfort or health in children that describes the multidimensional health and functional components such as physical, emotional, social, and behavior that is perceived by the child or himself or his parents. Purpose. This study was conducted to see the value of the quality of life of children with low risk and high risk of OSA. Method. This research is an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach which was conducted on 124 students of SMAIT Insantama Bogor with primary data collection obtained by filling out the Berlin questionnaire and the PedsQL questionnaire which was distributed to the respondents using an online questionnaire. Result. Children with low risk of OSA had a mean physical function score of 62.92, emotional function 62.87, social function 62.88, school function 62.84, and a mean total score of 62.94. Meanwhile, children with high risk of OSA have a physical function score of 55.5, emotional function 56.36, social function 56.07, school function 56.86, and a mean total score of 55.21. Conclusion. There was no significant difference in the mean quality of life in children with low risk of OSA and high risk of OSA.
