Abstract

Currently there has been an outbreak of COVID-19, which was firstly found in China at the end of 2019. COVID-19 is caused by a new strain of coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, there has not been a definitive therapy or vaccine up to now. The main transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is human-to-human, one the transmissions can be done through infected hands. Therefore, for now the most important things are good education and prevention, one of the simple ways is through hand-washing with soap and water. This study aims to determine the relations between the knowledge level of hand hygiene as one of the prevention of COVID-19 and hand-washing behavioural using soap among faculty of medicine students at UPN Veteran Jakarta Class of 2017. Type of study is observational analytic with cross sectional design. The sample of this study are 120 people (simple random sampling) by using primary data in the form of questionnaire google form. The data analysis includes univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi square statistical test. Based on the result, it was found that most of the sample had good knowledge (70%) and had very good behaviour (73,3%). The results of the chi square test showed that there was no significant relationship between the knowledge level of hand hygiene as one of the prevention of COVID-19 and the hand-washing behavioural using soap (p=0,685). This results showed that there are other factors that influence person’s behaviour, such as attitudes, perception, awareness, traditions and beliefs, socio-economic, availability of health facilities, or reinforcing factors such as community leaders and applicable regulations.
