Abstract

In 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Corona Virus Disease 19 or Covid-19 as a global pandemic and suggested the Distance Learning (DL) method. The changes that occurred in students due to Covid-19 certainly had an impact on students' psychology, such as stress. Someone who experienced situations or conditions that cause stress, would naturally try to overcome stress by using a number of certain behaviors, one of which is using smartphone. The purpose of this study was to determine the relation between stress level and smartphone addiction in students. The stress level value was obtained by the Perceived Stress Scale - 10 and smartphone addiction value obtained by the SAS-Short Version modified. The research design used was cross-sectional. The number of samples in this study were 185 students who met the inclusion criteria. The results of this study, there was no relation (p = 0.364) between stress level and smartphone addiction. This is caused by increasing smartphone usage during distance learning due to pandemic.
