Abstract

The development of digital technology has changed the way family members communicate and interact in their daily lives. On the other hand, the use of digital technology within families may also contribute to the emergence of a disconnected family, a condition in which family members experience limited emotional connection despite being in the same environment. This study aims to describe effective family communication as an effort to prevent disconnected family in the digital era. This study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and a literature review. The findings show that family connectedness is built through openness in communication, mutual listening, attention to emotional needs, and direct interaction. Digital technology can serve as a means of maintaining communication when family members are separated by distance; however, excessive use was found alongside reduced opportunities for direct interaction. Thus, effective communication plays an important role in maintaining emotional closeness and connectedness among family members in the digital era.
