Abstract

This study aims to analyze participatory communication for eco-enzyme adoption in the Pondok Cabe Ilir community, South Tangerang. The background of this study is based on the high level of household organic waste and the need for a communication strategy that can encourage active community participation. This study uses a qualitative approach with a single case study design and an interpretive paradigm. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with informants with the criteria of core community administrators, active members, local communities who have participated in the program for 2–3 years or more, and representatives of the Environmental Agency as supporting institutional elements, participant observation, and document analysis, then analyzed thematically with reference to the Participatory Environmental Communication (PEC) theory. The results of the study indicate that participatory communication for eco-enzyme adoption is formed through an inclusive, transparent, and dialogic communication process, starting from the introduction of environmental values, initial learning, involvement in the community, to strengthening the role and legitimacy of members. Institutional support from the local government and the Environmental Agency also strengthens the sustainability of the program. This study concludes that participatory communication not only functions as a means of disseminating information, but also as a mechanism for community empowerment in building community-based zero waste practices that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs targets of responsible consumption and production and climate change.
