Abstract
Film, as a medium of communication, functions not only as a form of entertainment but also as a representation of social reality, including the dynamics of family relationships. The film Perayaan Mati Rasa portrays the relationship between siblings characterized by conflict, trauma, and emotional reconciliation through interpersonal communication. This study is based on the importance of understanding how a film's narrative structure represents changes in interpersonal communication patterns within sibling relationships. The study aims to analyze the dynamics of interpersonal communication between siblings in Perayaan Mati Rasa using Tzvetan Todorov's narrative structure as developed by Nick Lacey and Gillespie, while also identifying communication changes based on Joseph DeVito's interpersonal communication concepts. This research employed a qualitative approach using a narrative analysis method. Data were collected through repeated observations of the film, documentation of dialogue transcripts, and analysis of verbal and nonverbal interactions. Data validity was ensured through triangulation of primary and secondary data relevant to narrative theory and interpersonal communication. The findings reveal that all five stages of Todorov's narrative structure are fully represented in the film. During the equilibrium and disruption stages, no characteristics of effective interpersonal communication are evident. From the recognition of disruption to the attempt to repair the disruption, openness, empathy, supportiveness, positiveness, and equality gradually emerge and are fully realized in the reinstatement of equilibrium stage. These findings indicate that conflict serves as the starting point for transforming communication into a more open and harmonious relationship. The study concludes that Todorov's narrative structure effectively explains the transformation of interpersonal communication between siblings and demonstrates that communication quality plays a crucial role in the process of relationship reconciliation. A limitation of this study is its focus on a single film without incorporating audience perspectives or comparisons with other films, limiting the generalizability of the findings.
