Abstract
This study aims to analyze the role of alternative rock music as a form of cognitive praxis in the movement opposing the 2025 increase in the Indonesian House of Representatives' allowances on Instagram. This research employed a netnographic approach using a mixed-method design, combining Transformer-based Natural Language Processing (NLP) for quantitative emotion analysis with qualitative interpretive analysis based on Eyerman and Jamison's Cognitive Praxis Theory. The research data were collected from Instagram Reels containing alternative rock music, user comments, and digital interactions published between 14 July 2025 and 30 April 2026. The findings reveal that alternative rock music functions not only as a supporting element of digital content but also as a medium for articulating social criticism, constructing collective meaning, and strengthening solidarity within digital social movements. Emotion analysis indicates that neutral emotion (32.79%) was the most dominant category, followed by disgust (28.28%) and anticipation (17.62%), suggesting that digital platforms serve not only as spaces for expressing opinions and criticism toward public policies but also for encouraging collective action. Based on the cosmological, technological, and organizational dimensions of Cognitive Praxis Theory, this study concludes that alternative rock music functions as an instrument of political communication capable of fostering collective awareness, reinforcing movement identity, and supporting mobilization processes in digital spaces.
