Abstract
Nutritional status is a key indicator of an individual's overall health, significantly influenced by determinants such as knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors concerning balanced nutrition, peer support, and fast food consumption. With the rising prevalence of overweight and obesity among adolescents, examining these determinants is crucial to underpin targeted prevention strategies. This study aims to investigate the relationship between nutritional status and knowledge, attitudes, behaviors related to balanced nutrition, peer support, and fast food consumption habits among adolescents. A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted involving 125 students selected via stratified random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Nutritional status was determined by weight and height measurements based on the BMI-for-age index. Data were analyzed using Fisher’s Exact and ordinal logistic regression tests (α=0.05). The prevalence of overweight among respondents was 63.2%. Findings identified poor knowledge in 70.4% of respondents, negative attitudes in 72.8%, inadequate nutritional behavior in 72.8%, insufficient peer support in 80.8%, and frequent fast food consumption in 51.2%. Nutritional status was significantly associated with knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and peer support (p<0.05), whereas fast food consumption showed no significant relationship (p=0.685). Attitude toward balanced nutrition emerged as the most dominant influencing factor.: Sustained nutrition education, supported by synergistic collaboration among schools, families, and healthcare professionals, is essential for improving adolescent nutritional status.
