Abstract

This study examines Pramono Anung's patron-client politics in securing political support from The Jakmania in the 2024 Jakarta Regional Election. This research is motivated by the significant role of community groups and supporter organizations in local political dynamics. As the largest football supporters' community in Jakarta, The Jakmania possesses a broad mass base and considerable influence in political mobilization processes. The support given to Pramono Anung indicates the existence of a political relationship involving an exchange of interests between political actors and community groups. This study aims to analyze the form of the patron-client relationship established between Pramono Anung and The Jakmania within the context of the 2024 Jakarta Regional Election. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation, and subsequently analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The analytical framework used in this study is James C. Scott's patron-client theory, which consists of four indicators: power asymmetry, personal and informal ties, client dependency, and reciprocal relationships. The findings reveal that The Jakmania's political support for Pramono Anung was built upon a personal and mutually beneficial relationship. Pramono Anung utilized his political resources, networks, and access to power to establish close relations with both the elites and members of The Jakmania. Meanwhile, The Jakmania gained access to convey its aspirations and advocate for the interests of the organization. All four indicators of patron-client relations were identified in this relationship, reflected in unequal resource distribution, personal closeness, dependence on political access, and the exchange of support and benefits between both parties. This study concludes that the patron-client relationship was a significant factor in shaping The Jakmania's political support for Pramono Anung in the 2024 Jakarta Regional Election.
