Abstract
Background: Hallucinations are one of the positive symptoms in patients with schizophrenia that may cause individuals to see or hear something without real stimuli. If not properly managed, this condition may lead to harmful behavior toward oneself, others, and the environment, as well as disrupt social functioning and reduce the patient’s quality of life. Objective: This case study aims to describe the implementation of nursing care through the application of generalist therapy in individuals experiencing visual hallucinations. Methods: This study used a case study approach focusing on one individual with visual hallucinations. The nursing process was carried out systematically, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Result: Generalist therapy was implemented using Nursing Action Implementation Strategies (SPTK) 1–4, including hallucination rebuking techniques, medication adherence, conversing with others, and performing scheduled activities. After five days of implementation, there was a reduction in the intensity and frequency of hallucinations, along with improved ability of the patient to recognize and control the hallucinations experienced. Conclusion: The application of generalist therapy in nursing care showed a reduction in visual hallucination symptoms and improved the patient’s ability to control hallucinations. Suggestion: This case study is expected to become a reference for healthcare professionals, educational institutions, families, and future researchers in optimizing generalist therapy for patients with hallucinations.
