Abstract
Background: Bell's Palsy is a disorder of the seventh cranial nerve (Facial Nerve) that causes sudden paralysis of facial muscles on one side due to inflammation or trauma. This condition is characterized by facial asymmetry, difficulty closing the eyes, decreased strength of facial expression muscles, and obstacles in daily functional activities. The prevalence of Bell's Palsy in Indonesia is around 19.55% of all neuropathy cases. Objective: This study aims to determine the process of physiotherapy examination, problems with Bell's Palsy cases, and management of physiotherapy interventions. Methods: The research method used is a case study using 1 patient sample, namely Mr. H, a 25-year-old man with a medical diagnosis of Bell's Palsy Sinistra at RSUD Pasar Minggu on February 6, 7, 28 and March 7, 2026. The physiotherapy examinations carried out were Daniel and Wothingnam Manual Muscle Testing to measure facial muscle strength, and the Ugo Fisch Scale to measure the functional ability of facial muscles. Results: After intervention using Electrical Stimulation, Infrared, Massage, and Mirror Exercise, there was an increase in facial muscle strength in several muscle groups, namely, M. Frontalis increased from a value of 1 to 3, M. Corrugator supercilli from a value of 1 to 3 and M. Orbicularis oculi increased from a value of 3 to 5. And there was an increase in the functional ability of facial muscles based on the Ugo Fisch Scale showing an increase from a score of 38 (moderate to severe paralysis) to 51 (moderate paralysis). Conclusions: In patients with Bell's Palsy Sinistra, there was an increase in facial muscle strength and functional ability of facial muscles after being given physiotherapy intervention in the form of Electrical Stimulation, Infrared, Massage and Mirror Exercise for 4 meetings.
