Abstract

Background: Children with cerebral palsy generally experience balance disorders as the ability to regulate body position to maintain postural stability when facing external and internal disturbances. The description of balance in children with cerebral palsy supports the consideration of physiotherapy intervention. Research Objective: To determine the balance profile of children with cerebral palsy at YPAC Jakarta based on age characteristics, type of cerebral palsy, GMFCS level, primitive reflexes, and trunk control. Research Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 41 children diagnosed with cerebral palsy aged 7-12 years. The examination used the Early Clinical Assessment of Balance (ECAB) measurement tool, which consisted of head and trunk postural control as well as sitting and standing postural control. Research Results: The results of data analysis obtained using the reference percentile of the total ECAB score showed that 24.4% of children were in the poor balance category, 51.2% of children were in the adequate balance category, and 24.4% of children were in the good balance category with a mean balance category score of 51.073 and a median score of 46.5. The standard deviation ± 28.39. The minimum score is 0 and the maximum score is 93.5. Conclusion: The balance of children with cerebral palsy was in the adequate balance category for the characteristics of age 7 years, spastic cerebral palsy type, GMFCS level III, primitive reflexes 1 – low, and moderate trunk control.
