Abstract
Hypertension is a chronic disease often seen in the elderly, usually remaining asymptomatic until severe consequences arise, thus earning the nickname, "silent killer" although pharmacotherapy is often used to manage hypertension, prolonged use can result in fatigue and side effects. Therefore, efficient, safe, and easy-to-use non-pharmacological treatments are needed, such as foot massage and music therapy. This study aims to implement family nursing care through the provision of foot massage and music therapy interventions to reduce blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension. The research method uses a case study on two elderly hypertensive clients, namely Mrs. S and Mrs. J. The intervention was carried out over three meetings with a 15-minute foot massage followed by 10 minutes of relaxation music therapy. The results showed a decrease in blood pressure in both patients after the intervention. The average blood pressure of Mrs. S decreased from 146/90 mmHg to 140/82 mmHg, while Mrs. J's blood pressure decreased from 140/88 mmHg to 134/84 mmHg. The combination of these two therapies effectively helps lower blood pressure by increasing relaxation and decreasing sympathetic nervous system activity. Therefore, this intervention can be used as a safe and easily implemented non-pharmacological complementary therapy for older adults with hypertension.
