Abstract
Emergency management of patients with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) in the Emergency Department generally remains focused on administering pharmacological therapy to reduce nausea and spinning sensations, even though non-pharmacological interventions such as the Epley maneuver have also been proven effective in addressing the underlying mechanism of vertigo caused by the displacement of otoconia in the semicircular canal. Vertigo accompanied by nausea, imbalance, and discomfort may interfere with patient functioning and increase the risk of falls, thereby requiring interventions that are rapid, safe, and appropriate. This study aims to analyze nursing care through the application of the Epley maneuver to reduce nausea and vertigo symptoms in patients with BPPV in the Emergency Department of Pasar Minggu Regional General Hospital. Evaluation was conducted using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) to assess nausea and the European Evaluation of Vertigo (EEV) to assess the severity of vertigo, which demonstrated a reduction in nausea, decreased spinning sensations, and improved balance after the maneuver was performed. Therefore, the Epley maneuver can be incorporated into the standard of nursing care for BPPV cases to enhance patient comfort, safety, and the overall quality of emergency care services.
