Abstract
Bronchopneumonia is a lower respiratory tract infection characterized by inflammation of the bronchioles and surrounding lung tissue. This disease is one of the main causes of morbidity in toddlers, because it can cause respiratory problems, decreased oxygen saturation, impaired nutritional intake, and the risk of serious complications if not treated quickly. One non- pharmacological method that can be used to relieve shortness of breath in bronchopneumonia patients is peppermint oil aromatherapy. The benefits of peppermint oil can help facilitate and relieve children's breathing. Objective: To analyze nursing care for children using peppermint oil aromatherapy in reducing breathing in toddlers with bronchopneumonia. Method: This research design uses a case study that applies peppermint oil aromatherapy to managed patients and resume patients. The intervention was carried out for three consecutive days with a duration of 10-15 minutes. Respiratory measurements were carried out manually by counting the rise and fall of the chest for one minute. Results: Both patients showed reduced respiratory output. In patients under management, the respiratory rate decreased from 40 to 31, and in patients with resumed respiratory rate decreased from 39 to 30. The conclusion of the intervention results showed that peppermint oil aromatherapy was able to reduce respiratory rate in toddlers with bronchopneumonia by 9 times per minute. Therefore, this intervention can be recommended as a non-pharmacological treatment option in pediatric nursing care.
