Abstract

The documentary film titled “Nelayan Eksil” explores the alienation of fishermen due to the impact of the Cilincing concrete embankment on the lives of fishermen in Kampung Nelayan Cilincing, North Jakarta. By presenting the perspectives of those involved in the events, this documentary film presents the actuality and participation of the documentary maker in recording reality. The documentary film will be created using a free cinema approach that combines documentary form with participatory and observational modes to create a mood and look based on this approach. The documentary film “Nelayan Eksil” focuses on highlighting the alienation of fishermen due to the construction of the Cilincing concrete embankment. Documentary filmmakers play the roles of cameraman and image editor in the production of documentary films. The cameraman is responsible for composing visuals by considering all aspects that can convey messages and emotional feelings through images. The cameraman arranges all aspects related to image recording, visual composition, and lighting by creating a shot list. This shot list will later become the cameraman's guideline for taking pictures. Meanwhile, the image editor is responsible for sorting, arranging, and designing all the material into a moving image. Image editors are often known as editors, which means that their role is to edit all the video and audio material that has been captured during production and turn it into a film with a story.
