Abstract

The Emergency Department (ER) is a hospital environment full of psychological stress, especially for children. The noisy atmosphere, bright lighting, invasive procedures, and uncertainty of the ER can cause significant fear. In facing challenges like this, emergency nurses need to innovate and learn to modify the environment to ensure smooth care. The implementation of an animal-assisted intervention (AAI) using goldfish was carried out in the ER of Pasar Minggu Regional Hospital, with two patients aged five and seven years who received intravenous catheter therapy. The method used was the implementation of an animal-assisted goldfish intervention with pre-test and post-test assessments using the Children's Fear Scale. The results of the two-hour intervention showed a decrease in fear experienced by both patients (CFS 3 to CFS 0). Therefore, the AAI intervention using goldfish has been proven effective in reducing the level of fear in pediatric patients who were hospitalized and received intravenous catheter treatment in the ER.
