Abstract
Hospitalization is a condition in which children require care and therapy in a hospital setting. The new environment, medical procedures, separation from parents, and limitations on activities can cause maladaptive responses in children. This can lead to psychological reactions, such as anxiety and worry. This paper aims to evaluate the implementation of clay play therapy on children with anxiety due to hospitalization. The patients involved in this study were given clay play therapy for 15-20 minutes once a day for three consecutive days. Anxiety was measured using Spence's Children Anxiety Scale (SCAS). The results showed that in two cases that received clay play therapy, there was a decrease in anxiety, which can be seen in the change in the category from moderate anxiety to no anxiety with a score of An. S from 36 to 14 and An. A score from 38 to 15, while the child who did not receive clay play therapy still experienced anxiety, with the category changing from moderate anxiety to mild anxiety with An. M scores from 34 to 20 and An. N scores from 36 to 23. These changes in scores indicate that clay play therapy can clinically help reduce anxiety in children during hospitalization. The author suggests that clay play therapy can be applied as a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce anxiety in children during treatment in order to improve holistic pediatric nursing services.
