Abstract
Low birth weight (LBW) infants are vulnerable to various disorders, such as unstable body temperature and slow weight gain due to immature organs and minimal body fat reserves. This condition requires special treatment to help maintain body temperature stability and support infant growth. One effective non-pharmacological approach to maintaining body temperature and increasing weight gain is Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC). This method involves direct skin-to-skin contact between mother and infant, providing natural warmth and stimulating infant growth. The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of KMC implementation on weight gain and body temperature stability in LBW infants. This study used a case study design on two LBW infants cared for in the perinatology ward. The KMC intervention was carried out for three consecutive days, with each session lasting one hour. Data were collected through direct observation and recording of body weight and temperature before and after the intervention. The results showed an increase in body weight and body temperature stability after KMC implementation. This intervention is recommended as routine nursing practice to support the growth of LBW infants in the perinatology ward.
