Abstract

Final-year students in the Faculty of Health Sciences face academic and psychological demands that increase the risk of depressive symptoms. Self-efficacy and self-esteem are key internal factors influencing students’ ability to manage stress, where low levels may heighten vulnerability to mental health problems and reduce psychological well-being. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-efficacy, self-esteem, and depressive symptoms among final-year students at the University of National Development “Veteran” Jakarta. A quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was used. The sample included 227 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Spearman correlation analysis revealed significant negative relationships between self-efficacy (r = -0.584; p = 0.000) and depressive symptoms (r = -0.340; p = 0.000), as well as between self-esteem and depressive symptoms. Students with lower self-efficacy and self-esteem tended to report higher levels of depressive symptoms. These findings highlight the importance of enhancing self-efficacy and self-esteem to support the mental health and psychological well-being of final-year students. Keywords: Depressive Symptoms, Final-year Students, Self-efficacy, Self-esteem
