Abstract
Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by increased blood pressure and proteinuria, which can threaten the safety of the mother and fetus. Non-pharmacological treatments, such as lavender aromatherapy, can relax the nervous system and reduce stress, thus lowering blood pressure. The purpose of this case study is to analyze the application of evidence-based nursing in the form of lavender aromatherapy through inhalation in third-trimester pregnant patients with preeclampsia to lower blood pressure. This study used a case study approach on two third-trimester pregnant patients with preeclampsia at Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital. The lavender aromatherapy intervention was administered for three consecutive days, once every morning for 30 minutes at a distance of ±5 cm from the nose. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention to assess the effectiveness of the therapy. The results of the intervention showed a significant decrease in blood pressure after the application of lavender aromatherapy. In patient Mrs. A, blood pressure decreased from 153/97 mmHg to 132/80 mmHg, while in patient Mrs. N, it decreased from 155/116 mmHg to 120/80 mmHg. Patients reported increased comfort, reduced pain, and improved sleep quality. Lavender aromatherapy through inhalation is effective as a non-pharmacological therapy to help pregnant women in the second trimester with indications of preeclampsia lower their blood pressure. This lavender aromatherapy intervention can be carried out as part of evidence-based non-pharmacological nursing care to lower blood pressure, increase comfort, and prevent the development of preeclampsia.
