Abstract

The development of information and communication technology has brought significant changes to the patterns of social interaction in society, including the rise of online gambling among university students. This activity is not only a form of digital entertainment, but also has the potential to cause deviant behavior that has a negative impact on social, economic, and moral aspects. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the social factors that play a role in controlling this behavioral tendency. This study aims to analyze the influence of group communication on deviant behavior in online gambling among students at University X Bogor. This study uses a quantitative method with an explanatory approach. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to students who had been exposed to or involved in online gambling activities. Data analysis was performed using correlation tests, simple linear regression, and hypothesis testing. The results of the study indicate that group communication has a positive and significant influence on deviant behavior in the use of online gambling. The positive influence in question shows that the more intense, open, and high-quality the communication that takes place within the student group, the lower the individual's tendency to engage in online gambling behavior.
