Abstract

The case of the Fufufafa account, which was linked to Gibran Rakabuming as the account owner, sparked debate in the public sphere and gave rise to differences in how the mass media presented the incident. This study aims to determine how online news media CNNIndonesia.com and Suara.com frame Gibran Rakabuming in the Fufufafa case. This study uses Robert N. Entman's framing theory model to determine how the media frames an event by selecting issues and highlighting certain aspects through four analytical tools: defining problems, diagnosing causes, making moral judgments, and treatment recommendations. This research method uses framing analysis with a qualitative approach and a constructivist paradigm. The data used as analytical material were obtained from 34 news articles from both online media. The results show that CNNIndonesia.com does not highlight Gibran as the main actor in the Fufufafa case, but instead emphasizes the government's statement rejecting the case. In contrast, Suara.com frames Gibran as the main actor by highlighting critical opinions from public figures and the community. The conclusion is that CNNIndonesia.com plays a role in maintaining a positive government image by minimizing the issue, while Suara.com provides space for public criticism and demands moral accountability from Gibran Rakabuming.
