Abstract
This study aims to analyze the determinants of Indonesia’s tea export volume to five major destination countries Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, China, and Russia during the period 2014-2023. The independent variables used in this research include the destination countries’ tea production (PRO), demand represented by the exchange rate (PER), and the import price of tea (HRG). The study employs panel data analysis with the Feasible Generalized Least Square (FGLS) method to address heteroskedasticity and autocorrelation issues within the model. The empirical findings indicate that the tea production of destination countries has a negative and significant effect on Indonesia’s tea export volume, suggesting that higher domestic production reduces the need for imported tea from Indonesia. The demand variable exhibits a negative but statistically insignificant effect, implying that fluctuations in demand do not meaningfully influence Indonesia’s export volume. Conversely, the import price variable shows a positive and significant effect, indicating that increases in international import prices are associated with higher export volumes, likely due to competitive advantages, quality factors, or supplier substitution effects. Overall, the results highlight that Indonesia’s tea export performance is shaped by a combination of production dynamics in destination markets and international price conditions. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders in formulating strategies to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia’s tea exports.
