Abstract
Objective This study aims to describe the executive function and cognitive flexibility of elderly drivers undergoing driving license renewal at the Bekasi Metro Police Office, and to determine how demographic and health-related factors influence their performance on the Trail Making Test (TMT). Methods A descriptive quantitative approach was used involving 89 elderly drivers aged ≥60 years. Executive function and cognitive flexibility were assessed using TMT parts A and B. Univariate analysis was conducted to summarize respondent characteristics, while bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test examined associations between demographic factors, health status, and TMT outcomes. Result Most respondents demonstrated good cognitive performance, with 83.1% falling within the normal category on TMT A and 94.4% on TMT B. Significant associations were found between age and TMT B, education level and TMT B, as well as health status and TMT A. No meaningful associations were observed for sex, driving experience, accident history, or vehicle type with either TMT score. Conclusion Age, educational background, and health status contribute to variations in executive function and cognitive flexibility among elderly drivers. These findings support the need for structured cognitive assessments during the license renewal process to enhance driving safety in older adults.
