Abstract

Dermatophytosis, known as tinea, is a superficial fungal infection that attacks keratin-rich tissue. Trichophyton rubrum is one of the most common dermatophyte fungi that cause superficial fungal infections in humans. The current treatment for fungal infections generally uses chemical drugs such as miconazole, ketoconazole, and clotrimazole. However, the use of these drugs can cause side effects such as increased resistance, which requires the search for more effective natural alternatives. One plant that has the potential as an alternative antifungal treatment is zodia leaf (Evodia suaveolens). This study aims to determine the effectiveness of zodia leaf extract against the growth of T. rubrum. This experimental study used a post-test only control group design with four variations of zodia leaf extract concentration. Extraction was performed using the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) method with 96% ethanol solvent, with zodia leaf extract concentrations of 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%. The positive control used 2% ketoconazole, while the negative control used distilled water. The effectiveness test was conducted using the well diffusion method for two days, with two observations at 24 hours and 48 hours. Data analysis was performed using the Kruskal￾Wallis test and Mann-Whitney Post Hoc test. The results showed that zodia leaf extract had a significant inhibitory effect on the growth of T. rubrum (p<0.05) with strong and moderate inhibitory power, which was due to the content of active compounds such as saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and triterpenoids. The most effective concentration was 50% with an average inhibition zone diameter of 11.15 mm and 8.65 at 48 hours
