Abstract
Hypertension is a condition characterized by a long-term increase in blood pressure within the blood vessels. Adolescents with hypertension are at higher risk of developing coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disorders in adulthood. Nowadays, more adolescents are adopting a modern lifestyle, often choosing convenience and instant options. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing blood pressure among adolescents at SMPN 182 Jakarta. A cross-sectional design and stratified random sampling was used. Blood pressure was measured with a digital sphygmomanometer, frequency of ultra-processed foods (UPF) consumption using FFQ, sedentary behavior using (ASAQ), and nutritional status through anthropometric measurements. Bivariate analysis using Spearman's correlation test showed significant associations between sex (p = 0.001), BMI-for-age (p = 0.000), and MUAC (p = 0.000) with systolic blood pressure, as well as between BMI-for-age (p = 0.000) and MUAC (p = 0.000) with diastolic blood pressure. Multivariate analysis using logistic regression indicated that BMI-for-age was the most influential factor on both systolic (p = 0.000; OR 2.201; 95% CI 1.670–2.899) and diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.000; OR 3.373; 95% CI 1.761–6.461). In conclusion, BMI-for-age is the key determinant of increased blood pressure among adolescents at SMPN 182 Jakarta.
