Abstract
The study titled “Framing the Issue of Budget Cuts for Free Nutritious Meals on the News Portals Liputan6.com and Tempo.co” aims to analyze how the news portals Liputan6.com and Tempo.co construct the reporting of the budget cuts for free nutritious meals, using the four framing elements by Robert M. Entman, which include: (1) Define Problems, (2) Diagnose Causes, (3) Make Moral Judgement, and (4) Treatment Recommendation. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, employing Robert M. Entman’s framing approach and the theory of mass media social construction to analyze news coverage on the Liputan6.com and Tempo.co news portals regarding the issue of the budget cut for the free nutritious meal program. This study aims to understand how Liputan6.com and Tempo.co frame and emphasize certain perspectives in presenting news related to this issue. The data collection technique used in this research is documentation. The findings of the study indicate that both Liputan6.com and Tempo.co focus on clarifying information regarding the budget cut issue. However, each adopts a different approach in framing the news. Liputan6.com tends to act as an information bridge between the government and the public, particularly in clarifying the issue. In contrast, Tempo.co not only serves as an information channel but also represents public interests by presenting a more critical perspective in its news reporting.
