Abstract
Hospitalization is a condition in which a child must undergo treatment in a hospital, so that the child is in an unfamiliar environment that is different from home. This change can cause emotional reactions such as stress, anxiety, fear, crying, and even rejection of medical procedures. Anxiety due to hospitalization can have negative impacts, such as aggressive behavior, excessive dependence, frequent crying, and disorders in child development. This study aims to describe the provision of nursing care to children who experience anxiety during hospitalization, through a play therapy approach by stacking blocks. This therapy is intended to help reduce the child's anxiety level during treatment. The study involved two participants: one child as the intervention group and one child as the control group. Children in the intervention group were given block-building play therapy for 15–20 minutes, three times a day, for three consecutive days. Meanwhile, the control group only received therapeutic communication without special actions. Anxiety measurement used the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). The results showed that the intervention group experienced a decrease in anxiety from a score of 28 to 24, while the control group only decreased from 28 to 27. This proves that block-building therapy is effective as a distraction method to reduce anxiety in children during hospitalization.
