Abstract

Premature infants face considerable challenges in adapting to the extrauterine environment due to organ immaturity, particularly of the respiratory system. They are at high risk of experiencing hemodynamic disturbances, such as irregular respiratory rates and low oxygen saturation levels, which require careful monitoring and appropriate interventions. One non-pharmacological intervention increasingly applied in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) is lullaby music therapy. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of lullaby music therapy in managing hemodynamic instability, particularly in respiratory patterns and oxygen saturation, among premature infants in the NICU. The sample included both in-treatment and discharged patients diagnosed with hemodynamically unstable premature conditions. The intervention consisted of daily lullaby music sessions played through a tablet device at a volume of 45–50 dB for 30 minutes or until the infant fell asleep, for four consecutive days. The observations indicated improvements in hemodynamic parameters, especially oxygen saturation and respiratory rate, following the intervention. These findings suggest that lullaby music therapy is clinically effective in promoting hemodynamic stability in premature infants, particularly in terms of respiratory function and oxygenation.
