Abstract

Chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis require vascular access, one of which is arteriovenous fistula (AV fistula). The needle insertion process in AV fistula often causes pain that can interfere with patient comfort and compliance with hemodialysis therapy. One of the non-pharmacological techniques to reduce AV fistula insertion pain is the valsalva maneuver. The purpose of this study was to analyze nursing care in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis with the application of the valsalva maneuver to the level of pain of AV fistula insertion. Pain measurement using NPRS (Numerical Pain Rating Scale). Before performing the valsalva maneuver, both patients experienced severe pain, namely the main management patient 7 and resume patient 8. After performing the valsalva maneuver, the main managed patient experienced mild pain (scale) 3 and the resume patient had moderate pain (scale 4). In conclusion, the Valsalva maneuver can reduce the pain level of AV fistula insertion in chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. The application of the valsalva maneuver can be an effective non pharmacological nursing intervention in reducing the level of needle insertion pain in AV fistula chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis, thereby improving the quality of nursing care and patient comfort.
