Abstract

Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV) is one of the most common complications occurring within 24 hours after surgical procedures and the administration of anesthesia. This condition can interfere with patient recovery and comfort. One effective non-pharmacological intervention to reduce the intensity of nausea and vomiting is acupressure at the P6 (Nei Guan) point. P6 acupressure is a stimulation technique performed by applying pressure to a point located between the tendons of the palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis muscles, approximately 4 cm proximal to the wrist crease. This study aims to analyze the application of Evidence-Based Nursing through P6 acupressure to reduce PONV in postoperative nephrolithiasis patients, conducted at 0 and 1 hour after surgery. The intensity of nausea and vomiting was measured at 0, 1, and 3 hours postoperatively using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for nausea. The results showed a decrease in nausea intensity from moderate to mild. In the managed case, the VAS score decreased from 6 to 3, while in the resume case, the score decreased from 7 to 2. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that P6 acupressure is effective in reducing PONV and can be used as a supportive approach in clinical nursing practice. Nurses in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) can utilize acupressure at the P6 point as a non-pharmacological intervention, which can be combined with antiemetic medications to enhance the effectiveness of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) management.
