Abstract
Pain and anxiety are common responses experienced by patients when undergoing wound suturing in the emergency department (ED), which if left untreated can interfere with comfort and slow down the healing process. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of instrumental music therapy as a non-pharmacological method in reducing pain and anxiety levels. This study used a case study design involving patients who met the inclusion criteria. Evaluation was carried out subjectively using Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain and Face Anxiety Scale (FAS) for anxiety, as well as objectively through observation of facial expressions and hemodynamic parameters (blood pressure and pulse). The results showed that instrumental music therapy was able to significantly reduce pain and anxiety levels, especially giving a more tangible impact on reducing anxiety, marked by calmer and more cooperative patient behavior. The decrease in blood pressure and pulse rate also strengthened the evidence of the effectiveness of this intervention. Music therapy can be recommended as an effective non-pharmacological approach to improve patient comfort during wound suturing procedures in the emergency department.
