Abstract

The elderly are an age group that is vulnerable to various degenerative health problems, one of which is stroke. Stroke can cause impaired motor and sensory function which leads to extremity muscle weakness. One effective non pharmacological approach to help restore muscle strength in stroke patients is to perform Rubber Ball Grip Therapy. This study aims to apply nursing care in providing Rubber Ball Grip Therapy interventions in increasing upper limb muscle strength in stroke elderly. The research was designed through a case study with a duration of intervention for 7 days with a frequency of 2 times a day. Muscle strength is measured using Manual Muscle Testing which is measured both before and after providing intervention innovation. The results of this study showed an increase in the muscle strength scale in managed patients and resume patients, where the muscle strength scale in managed patients before was +3 increased to 4. Likewise in resume clients previously +2 increased to -3. Based on these findings, it shows that Rubber Ball Grip Therapy can be an effective intervention in the rehabilitative management of stroke elderly so that it can be part of family nursing care that is applied daily.
