Abstract

Background: Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is one of the cardiovascular diseases that contributes to the largest mortality rate globally. CHF is the inability of the heart to pump blood throughout the body. One of the main symptoms of CHF is shortness of breath which can interfere with the patient's daily activities. Objective: To determine the effect of semi fowler position and inhale in increasing oxygen saturation and hemodynamics in CHF patients. Methods: This study used a descriptive method with a direct case study approach at Tarakan Hospital, Central Jakarta in CHF patients. Interventions in the form of applying the semi fowler position and deep breathing for 15 minutes were carried out for 3 consecutive days to evaluate oxygen saturation and hemodynamic status. Results: After the intervention showed an increase in oxygen saturation from 96% to 99%, accompanied by a decrease in breathing frequency from 25x/minute to 20x/minute. Heart rate also showed data towards normal, from 100-105x/min to 94x/min. Conclusion: The application of semi fowler position and deep breathing proved effective in increasing oxygen status and improving hemodynamic status in CHF patients. This intervention can be used as an independent action by nurses in the management of CHF patients.
