Abstract
Background: pneumonia is a disease that attacks lung tissue, the main cause of which is infection such as viruses, bakteria, fungi. Objective: this scientific paper is to improve insight in providing nursing care to pneumonia patients with ineffective airway clearance problems at Pasar Rebo Regional Hospital, East Jakarta. Method: The design used in this scientific paper is a case study with an assessment apporoach, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and nursing evaluation. Results: the main nursing problem in patients is ineffective airway clearance with the implementation of effective coughing exercise interventions. Evaluation after effective coughing exercises showed a decrease in breathing frequency from 25x/minute to 20x/minute, with an SpO2 level of 98%. From these results can be seen in the patient’s oxygenation status. Conclusion: The application of effective coughing given to pneumonia patients with ineffective airway clearance problems can have a significant impact on the removal of retained sputum, although the removal process is gradual little by little.
