Abstract

Background: Inverted nipples in postpartum mothers can hinder the breastfeeding process, negatively impacting both the infant's health and the mother's milk production. According to UNICEF data, 17.2 million mothers experience breastfeeding difficulties, with 15.1% affected by inverted nipples. Contributing factors include congenital conditions, breast cancer, or shortened milk ducts. Solutions such as breast care education and the use of methods like syringe suction or nipple shields can help address this issue. Objective: This case study aims to describe the implementation of nursing care for Mrs. N, a postpartum mother experiencing inverted nipples. Method: This scientific paper uses a case study design focusing on the issue of inverted nipples in a postpartum mother. Results: After three days of nursing care for Mrs. N, three nursing diagnoses were identified: ineffective breastfeeding, acute pain, and risk of infection. The interventions resulted in an improvement in Mrs. N’s condition. Conclusion: The three main problems were ineffective breastfeeding, acute pain, and risk of infection. Interventions included breast care, correct breastfeeding techniques, relaxation for pain management, and wound care to prevent infection. Evaluation showed that ineffective breastfeeding was successfully resolved, while acute pain and infection risk were partially addressed due to the extended healing time required.
