Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia remains high, with West Java ranking third among provinces with the highest hypertension prevalence in 2023. An unhealthy lifestyle is a significant factor associated with hypertension, particularly among individuals in the productive-age group. This study aims to determine which lifestyle factors are linked to the prevalence of hypertension in West Java's productive-age population. A cross-sectional study design utilized secondary data from measures and interviews during the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey. The study population included individuals aged 19–64 years. A sample of 30,833 registered in the SKI 2023 questionnaire was analyzed after weighting up to the multivariate with Cox regression. The prevalence of hypertension among the productive-age population in West Java was 33.1% (95%CI 32.3–34.0). Multivariate analysis revealed that factors significantly associated with hypertension included physical inactivity (aPR:1.060; 95%CI 1.059–1.061), smoking behavior (aPR:1.135; 95%CI 1.130–1.139), alcohol consumption (aPR:1.353; 95%CI 1.329–1.378), high salt intake (aPR:1.030; 95%CI 1.028–1.031), and fatty foods (aPR:1.052; 95%CI 1.051–1.054). Among these, alcohol consumption emerged as the dominant factor. Optimizing hypertension control programs, such as CERDIK and PATUH, alongside promoting healthier lifestyle changes in the population, can aid in the prevention of hypertension.
