Abstract

HIV/AIDS is an infectious disease that is still a problem for public health because there is no vaccine or drug to cure it. HIV patients need to take antiretroviral therapy to suppress the virus. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with antiretroviral therapy adherence in HIV patients. The method used was quantitative research with a cross-sectional study design. The population of this study were HIV patients aged over 18 years who sought treatment at the VCT Clinic of RSUD Tarakan Jakarta. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The instruments in this study were HIV care and ART overview forms. Data were analyzed multivariately using multiple logistic regression. The results showed that of 266 HIV patients, 213 (80.1%) reported adherence to antiretroviral therapy. This study found that age (aPOR 2.631; 95% CI 1.059-6.533), education level (aPOR 4.407; 95% CI 1.948-9.973), ART duration (aPOR 0.259; 95% CI 0.100-0.673), CD4 count (aPOR 2.593; 95% CI 1.219-5.517), and drug side effects (aPOR 0.108; 95% CI 0.014-0.860) had associations with antiretroviral therapy adherence. There are still patients with low education resulting in low adherence, so leaflets or posters can be used and nutritional counseling can be added.
