Abstract
Acute diarrhea is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in toddlers, especially in areas with limited access to health services. Zinc supplementation is effective in accelerating the healing of acute diarrhea by increasing immunity and improving bowel function. This study aims to determine the relationship between zinc supplementation and the duration of acute diarrhea in toddlers at the Cimuning Health Center, Bekasi City. This study used a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach in 106 toddlers aged 0-59 months who were selected through the consecutive sampling method. Primary data were taken from observations, and secondary data from health center medical records. The results of the analysis using the Pearson test showed a significant relationship between zinc supplementation and the duration of diarrhea (p = 0,013; r = –0,240). On average, zinc supplementation lasted for 8 days, with an average duration of diarrhea of 3 days. The frequency of bowel movements decreased from 7 times on the first day to 4 times on the third day. There is a relationship between zinc supplementation and the duration of acute diarrhea in toddlers. Zinc supplementation needs to be widely implemented in the treatment of acute diarrhea in toddlers in primary health care to accelerate recovery.
