Abstract
Cultural diplomacy will greatly help a country to identify what is essential or special and is considered strategically efficient to represent itself in the international world. This can also measure the extent to which a country's efforts have worked to instrument itself to the world. As a country, Indonesia also uses cultural diplomacy to achieve Indonesia's national interests in the international community. This study aims to determine how Indonesia's efforts to increase tourist visits from Laos by using cultural diplomacy. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive with primary and secondary data sources. The data collection techniques used are interviews and document reviews. This study uses the theory of soft power and cultural diplomacy. The results of the study show that Indonesia's cultural diplomacy towards Laos is carried out by holding exhibitions, holding teaching, and exchanging experts. Cultural diplomacy has a much broader goal and has a long-term impact, namely to increase understanding and friendship between the two countries in this case Indonesia and Laos which is the foundation for stronger relations in the fields of politics, trade economy, and socio-culture. Cultural diplomacy is one form of diplomacy in the context of using soft power in the implementation of diplomacy. Soft Power is a persuasive approach in international relations, usually by using economic and cultural influence. Related to this, soft power consists of culture, nation and education so that exhibitions, teaching and exchange of experts are included in soft power and have relations in it.
