Abstract

Trichophyton rubrum is one type of dermatophyte fungus that most often causes dermatophytosis. One of the plants that has potential as an alternative antifungal treatment is cajeput tree (Melaleuca cajuputi). This study aims to determine the effectiveness of cajeput leaf extract on the growth of T. rubrum. This experimental study used a post-test only control group design with five variations of eucalyptus leaf extract concentrations, namely 30%, 35%, 40%, 45%, and 50%. The positive control used ketoconazole 2%, while the negative control used distilled water. The effectiveness test was conducted using the well diffusion method for two days, with two observations at 24 hours and 48 hours. The results showed that cajeput leaf extract effectively inhibited the growth of T. rubrum with strong inhibition, which was caused by the content of active compounds such as alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and triterpenoids. The most effective concentration was 45%, with an average inhibition zone diameter of 15.25 mm at 24 hours and increased to 18.7 mm at 48 hours.
