Abstract
Background Elderly is the last stage in the human life cycle which is often decorated with life circumstances that do not meet expectations, giving rise to mental disorders, for example depression. Depression is a feeling disorder that can cause sleep disturbances. The incidence of depression in Indonesia is reported to be 15.9% of the prevalence of elderly aged 55-64 years who experience depression, then 23.3% at the age of 65-74 years and around 33.7% aged over 75 years. There are many factors that influence the occurrence of depression, one of which is the factor of spirituality. Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between aspects of spirituality and depression in the elderly at the Pinang Pola RPTRA elderly school. Method This research design uses a cross sectional method. The dependent variable in this study is depression with the independent variable is the aspect of spirituality. The analysis used in this study was univariate and bivariate analysis. Result The results showed that there was no relationship between aspects of spirituality and depression in the elderly (p = 1.000). Conclusion Thus, it can be concluded that first, the description of the level of spirituality in the elderly school RPTRA Pinang Pola has an average high level of spirituality. Second, an overview of the level of depression that occurs in the Pinang Pola RPTRA elderly school, on average, is in the phase of not experiencing depression, where the belief system plays an important role in preventing depression. Third, there is no relationship between spirituality and depression in the elderly at the elderly school RPTRA Pinang Pola Reference : 45 (1998-2024) Keywords : Aspects of spirituality, depression, elderly, elderly school
