Abstract
The aim of this research is to discuss the political dynamics involved in formulating the policy to relocate the United States Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which was enacted in 2018, using theories of foreign policy and foreign policy decision-making. This study employs an explanatory qualitative method, utilizing literature review as the data collection technique. The researcher analyzes qualitative data by delving into and exploring the focal issues of the research, using qualitative data sources. These findings are then linked to the research issues through a conceptual framework, forming the basis for analysis and conclusions. The research reveals that in the process of formulating foreign policy regarding the relocation of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, there are complexities in domestic political processes involving various stakeholders. President Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the relocation of the embassy reflects campaign promises fulfilled, the exercise of presidential power, and the implementation of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, which had been previously postponed. Lobby groups like AIPAC play a crucial role in influencing pro-Israel foreign policy through resources and access to decision-makers at the White House. Support from evangelical Christian voters, a strong base for President Trump, further bolstered these actions despite differing opinions within US politics.
