Abstract
The differing perspectives between foreign cultures that are more permissive towards children and Indonesian culture that tends to be more protective create potential gaps in cultural reception. This study aims to analyze audience reception of family communication patterns depicted in the film Enola Holmes. The research hypothesis posits that there is diversity in viewers' reception of family communication patterns in the film based on their cultural backgrounds. Using a descriptive qualitative method and Stuart Hall's reception theory, this study conducted observations and semi-structured interviews with seven informants selected through purposive sampling. Results show varied reception, with three informants in a negotiated position and four others in an oppositional position. These findings indicate the importance of understanding the influence of cultural background on the interpretation of family communication patterns in media. This research contributes to the development of more effective cross-cultural communication and highlights the need for a deeper understanding of how culture shapes perceptions of global media content.
