Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the leadership style of Surya Paloh in the National Democratic Party (NasDem) and its implications for the party's internal dynamics and Indonesian politics in general. Surya Paloh, as the founder and chairman of NasDem, is known for his transformational leadership style characterized by a clear vision, the ability to inspire, and a drive for innovation and creativity among party members. Using a qualitative approach, this research explores the factors of political socialization influencing Surya Paloh's leadership, including his family background, education, experience as a media entrepreneur, and political involvement. The study finds that Surya Paloh's transformational leadership significantly contributes to shaping the identity and policy direction of NasDem. His inclusive and innovation-friendly leadership has created a dynamic and progressive party climate. However, the high dependency on Surya Paloh's figure also presents challenges, particularly concerning the continuity of the party's vision and direction in his absence. The implications of these findings suggest that transformational leadership can strengthen the party's internal structure and enhance political participation, but also highlight the importance of leadership diversification to mitigate the risk of reliance on a single individual. The study recommends that NasDem develop more collective and sustainable leadership mechanisms and continue to promote the development of young cadres to ensure effective leadership regeneration. Therefore, this research not only provides insights into Surya Paloh's leadership and NasDem but also contributes to a broader understanding of political leadership dynamics in Indonesia.
