Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) states that the number of childhood cancer sufferers in Indonesia is in first place compared to other countries in Southeast Asia. The illnesses experienced by children also have an impact on the psychology of parents and patients, so the presence of volunteers is needed as an external factor to motivate cancer patients. This research aims to discuss in more depth the participatory communication program "family support" of the Indonesian Child Cancer Foundation (YKAI) through volunteers in motivating cancer patients. Participatory communication theory is used to find out the role of volunteers in the program. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a case study approach. Determining research subjects or respondents in this study was carried out by purposive sampling. The data collection techniques used are observation, documentation and interviews. The data analysis stages use the Miles and Huberman concept which consists of data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results that the researchers obtained were that the Indonesian Child Cancer Foundation's "family support" program implemented four participatory communication concepts, namely heteroglasia, dialogue, polyphony, and carnival. Researchers also found that volunteer participation or involvement tends to be at a high level and the impact resulting from the "family support" program has an influence on knowledge (cognitive), feelings (affective) and attitudes (conative) for both administrators, volunteers and people. elderly pediatric cancer patients.
