Abstract

Hypertension is the most common non-communicable disease among Hajj pilgrims, and the incidence of hypertension in young adults has also increased to more than 20%. One of the causes of hypertension is high cholesterol levels, which are caused by not maintaining a good diet. If high cholesterol (dyslipidemia) and hypertension interact, it can cause greater risks such as coronary heart disease, stroke, and death in Hajj pilgrims. This study aims to determine the relationship between dyslipidemia and hypertension in young adult Hajj pilgrims in Indonesia. This research used a cross-sectional study design with secondary data from Siskohatkes in 2023. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with the criteria being respondents aged 19–44 years, and a sample of 28,397 was obtained. Analysis was carried out using Mantle-Haenszel stratification and Cox regression models. According to the results of the analysis, 21% of Hajj pilgrims experienced hypertension, and 62.1% experienced dyslipidemia. The results of the stratification analysis showed that dyslipidemia was associated with hypertension in young adult Hajj pilgrims in the female strata compared to the male strata (PR = 1.25; 1.17–1.33; PR = 1.12; 1.04–21). Multivariate results show that dyslipidemia (PR = 1.2; 95% CI = 1.138–1.267) is associated with the incidence of hypertension in young adult Hajj pilgrims in Indonesia. It is recommended that the Hajj health center, in further interventions, require special guidance for female Hajj pilgrims in controlling dyslipidemia and hypertension.
